Peru: A month full of wonder and awe at the creation of the Lord. From oceans to mountains, from babies lit up faces to embracing what family means. It was beautiful and it was kingdom. Here is a little bit about what we did in Peru and some pictures to go along with it.
Our ministry this month was in Cusco, Peru but before heading there, our team stopped in Lima. We spent the day at the beach and exploring the city.
The sun set in Lima was beyond beautiful. It captured God’s majesty and glory and left us in awe at His beauty.
During our first couple days in Cusco, we explored the city and got to know our wonderful hosts, Tim and Holly and their beautiful family. Here is a picture of our walk into town. Tim and Holly live about a miles walk to the bus stop. A walk with a view!
Our ministry this month was primarily working at an orphanage called the Josephine House. In the house there are 15 little bundles of joy. Most of which were under the age of 2, so you could say we had our hands full; literally, sometimes carry 3 kiddos at a time. This month I learned that kingdom is all around. It is found in something as seemingly big as raising someone from the dead but its as powerful as seeing the joy on a child’s face as you launch them into the air. This month, ministry looked like speaking destiny and identity over these children. They have their entire life ahead of them, we spoke out a life of fullness and blessing over each of them. It was heartbreaking at times to know that these children don’t yet have a home. But the Lord reminded me that the orphans now have a home; they have a home with Him. We blessed them to make their home with Jesus because that is their true home. For security purposes, we can’t show the kids faces but here are a few pics to give you a glimpse into our ministry.
We played on jungle gyms and swam in ball pits. Sometimes it seemed like our team had more fun with this than the kids!
Another part of ministry this month was helping a local couple, Wilson and Ella, work on some things around their house. We painted, patched holes, sanded walls, and cleaned windows!
Our team had the opportunity to see lots of beautiful sites this month; like the city of Cusco, hiking the hills surrounding the city, Rainbow Mountain, & Machu Picchu.
Our incredible hosts Tim and Holly took us on a beautiful hike on the mountain side surrounding Cusco.
I got to hike my first mountain and cross this off my bucket list! Rainbow Mountain was beautiful!
And of course Machu Picchu! Over the course of 2 days, we walked 8 miles into town, made our own ponchos, toured Machu Picchu, walked 8 miles back, and crossed a landslide by foot. It was all worth it!
I am so blown away by God’s goodness and wonder. This month was challenging being away from home for Christmas, but we drew closer together as a family and it was so special. Peru, you will be missed!
